In addition one must include Swiss who chose to adopt a different nationality for instance, the French writers Madame de Stael, Benjamin Constant. Paul Dirac, winner of the Physics Nobel Prize, was both a Swiss and Bristish citizen until the age of 17. On the other hand there were foreigners who decided to settle in Swiss territory: the reformer Johannes Calvin, the painters Conrad Witz, Holbein the Younger, the artist Daniel Spoerri, the authors Hermann Hesse, Robert Musil, the film director Charly Chaplin, the writer Georges Simenon, the cigar importer Zino Davidoff, etc.

Albert Einstein is granted citizenship of the city of  Zrich in 1900.

Paul Klee was born in Switzerland, but of German nationality; he later also lives in Germany. In 1933 he returns to Switzerland as emigrant. For 1940 it is planned to grant him Swiss citizenship, but he dies a few days prior to the ceremony.

Albert Schweitzer, the famous physician, theologist, musician and philospher, despite his name was not Swiss! He was born as a German in Kaysersberg, Elsass, 14. 1. 1875 - 4. 9.1965, Lambarene, Gabun and became French in 1918 after WW I.
